About the Artist

CORINNE ORAZIETTI
I grew up in the Vancouver area. After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from S.F.U. and a teaching degree at U.B.C., I lived in Banff, Alberta for seven years. I loved living in a National Park, but missed my family and the more moderate climate of the West Coast. I left the mountains and moved to another natural setting in Sooke, B.C. on Vancouver Island.
When painting, I like to offer simply an impression of what I see and to edit unnecessary details. For me, this creates a painting with more emotional impact. I love the look of brush strokes and try to keep a loose painterly quality in my work. I try not to be bound by convention when making colour choices. The freedom to choose colours which don't always make sense is one of my favourite things about painting. A blue tree, a vibrant yellow sky, bright green ocean water - why not? I often use a photograph as a starting point for my compositions. Then, I allow myself to be creative and will add or delete items and alter colours to suit the mood I'm trying to create.
I paint from nature because it is what inspires me, grounds me, and gives me the sense that "all is well in the world." As John Muir stated, "the quickest way into the universe is through a forest wilderness." I ty to capture a little of this magic when I paint.
